Grant Application Process
Availability of Community Development Block Grant Funds for Grant Year 2017-18
The City of McKinney is the recipient of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds used to address a range of housing and community development activities. The city anticipates receiving its 2017-2018 allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for use effective October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018. Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply for funding. Funds must be used to benefit McKinney residents and meet at least one CDBG national objective: 1) benefit to low and moderate income persons; 2) eliminate slum and blight; or 3) address an urgent need. Projects and activities must also meet eligibility requirements as defined by HUD and the city’s Consolidated Plan.
Interested organizations unable to attend the pre-application meeting held on March 16, 2017 may contact the office at 972-547-7517 to receive a copy of the presentation. A minimum of $5,000 per application may be requested for funding support and a maximum of two separate application requests per organization may be permitted. Access grant portal and instructions.
Complete applications for consideration will only be accepted through the online process no later than Friday, April 14, 2017 at 4 p.m. Eligible activities include public services (not limited to counseling, child advocacy, aging and disability services, health services, education, case management, employment and crime prevention); rehabilitation of existing housing (city's Housing Rehabilitation Program); preservation and support of affordable housing (not construction costs); public facilities, homelessness and homelessness prevention; acquisition, clearance and eligible CDBG economic development. The application deadline is 4 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2017. No late applications will be accepted. Application proposals will be reviewed by the Community Grants Advisory Commission. Applicants will present their proposals to the Commission before submission to City Council for approval in August. Public hearings are scheduled for May 10, 2017 and May 11, 2017, 6:30 p.m. each evening at McKinney City Hall, Council Chambers, 222 N. Tennessee Street.
